Do NYC cabbies have to take you anywhere in the city? If you grab a cab at Yankee Stadium does he have to take you to JFK if you request it? Staten Island to Harlem? Or can they just say sorry dude, you gotta walk and bus it like Martin.
i think they also have to take you to newark airport if you ask. martin doesnt really ride the bus, he rides the train 95% of the time. although he does lobby in favor of the bus for uptown crossings or other rare occasions when smart bus usage is quicker than the train.
yes it is a monopoly with prices set by the city. it is illegal for non-medallion gypsy cabs to pick you up. but you can get them anyways and negotiate a price.

ReplyDeleteNo but it aint exaclty free market either. The city controls the exact number of cabs. How much they can charge and how they sposed to act.
